However, you must remember that all the details you put in the ETA application must correspond with those of their passport. Make sure that you enter the applicant’s (not yours) details correctly. Should I worry about the delay in the processing of my ETA application?
In most cases, ETAs are processed instantaneously. In some cases, the processing of an ETA application can be delayed due to the provision of incorrect information or where an application is referred to the Australian High Commission for further assessment.
The ETA only applies to foreign nationals who are legally admissible to enter Australia, either as a first-timer or a returnee. Hence, you need to have a clean record and a valid passport to obtain an ETA and enter the country.
The very first thing you need to do is to reevaluate your application. Did you enter the right details? Do you hold an ETA eligible passport? You can try applying for an ETA again if you entered details incorrectly. If all details are correct and you are denied again, you should seek advice from the nearest Australian mission.
The ETA depends on the validity of your passport since these two documents are electronically linked with each other. When applying for a new ETA, don’t forget to input your new passport details or everything that has been changed upon your passport renewal (from address, to document number, down to its validity period). Basically, an ETA visa allows the foreign citizen to stay in Australia for a maximum of 3 months from the date of arrival, although it is valid for 12 months starting the date of issue, or until your passport’s expiry date whichever is sooner.
Having said this, the only thing you need to do is let your ETA expire and reapply for a new one in case your travel dates do not correspond with the validity of your original ETA.
