Changing the Title and Tagline

For the identification of your website, the title and tagline play an important role. These will give the first impression to the people searching, that what your website is all about. The title of a website is just like the name of the website. It will be displayed in the title bar of your browser. Whereas, the tagline is kind of a short description that will give an explanation about your website. This will be displayed with the title in the title bar of your browser. You can find the options to set both of them by going into the 'Settings', under 'General'.

Setting the Date and Time Format, Time zone

You can set the Timezone along with the Date and Time by going to the General Settings situated in the WordPress dashboard. Here you can choose the Timezone in which you are currently located or you can even select the UTC option in case you are not able to locate your city. By doing this, the timings of your post will be synchronized with that of your actual time zone. This will allow your post scheduling to work as you expect them to work. You can control the display of your Date and Time by setting their format. Its purpose is to display the publishing and the update time of the posts to the visitors. You can select the default format or create any format of your own.

Changing the Permalink Structure

Permalinks are one of the most important elements in a WordPress website. These are the permanent URLs for your individual pages and posts. The default structure of the permalink is unfortunately not Google friendly. Due to this, you will have to change them. This can be done by going to the 'Settings' and then selecting 'Permalink' from the menu. Here you will find a set of different choices that will enable you to set a new structure. Select any one of them that you prefer and then save the settings.

Remove Unused Themes

It is always better to delete the themes that are of no use to your WordPress website. This is because if you keep these unused themes, sooner or later they will need the necessary upgrades. You don't have any other choice than updating these themes as if you don't update them, your website will face the hazard of getting attacked by hackers. Deleting a theme is not a very difficult task. Just go to the menu item 'Appearance' and then select 'Themes'. For deleting any of the themes, you will have to hover over it and select 'Theme Details'. This will display a window that will contain the option to delete the theme.

Installing Cache Plugin

A cache plugin is very important as it will increase the overall load time of your website. It will store all the static pages of your website that will take the unnecessary load off the server and make your website quicker. This will also benefit your website on the SEO aspect and maintain its performance during excessive traffic.

Conclusion

All the above-mentioned steps must be strictly followed immediately after the successful installation of your WordPress website. However, there are many other steps apart from those mentioned above that you should follow. But the one's stated above must be high on your priority list.
