Air the bedrooms and living rooms every day to cut down on the humidity. During the pollen season, do this at night when there is less pollen in the air. Dry your clothes outside or in a tumble drier, not over a radiator, and fit extractor fans in the bathroom and kitchen. A damp house not only provides a haven for mites, it also encourages mold growth.

Make sure your house has good damp proofing. To combat damp problems, mop up condensation on the window sills, use air conditioners and dehumidifiers, throw out moldy food and wash shower curtains and shower cubicle walls regularly. Regular washing is essential in the battle to keep the dust mites out of your clothes. If you suffer from eczema and find some soap powders and fabric softeners make it worse, double rinsing may help to eliminate this problem.

Studies have shown that admissions to hospital for asthma are higher when levels of polluted citiesare high. Other studies have shown that high volumes of traffic lead to respiratory difficulties in children. But researches now think that other triggers, such as the house dust mites or pollen, may affect asthma sufferers more than air pollution.

And there is no evidence that air pollution causes asthma. Studies in Eastern Europe show low levels of asthma despite heavy air pollution. Cities such as Los Angeles and Mexico City also have heavy pollution but low rates of asthma. Tiny traces of mercury present in the amalgam can leach out and cause a wide range of symptoms such as difficulty in concentrating, a poor memory, headaches and circulatory disorders. Some researches now believe that asthma, eczema and other allergies may be triggered by dental amalgam.
