HS2 set to transform Birmingham and other parts of the UK
High Speed 2, popularly known as HS2, is a high-speed rail link that will connect London and other major cities. The project is expected be concluded in 2026 and is predicted to be the fastest running train in Europe connecting London and Birmingham, travelling up to speeds of 250mph, with over 1,000 people on each train. The city of Birmingham will definitely be one of the greatest beneficiaries of the development, with other major cities like Leeds and Manchester also enjoying the rail link.
“As one of UK’s largest suppliers of agency labour to the construction industry, we provide the necessary support for the High Speed 2 in line with our goal of promoting the growth of the economy by delivering higher productivity from fewer resources,” said Sat Nijjer, CEO of Fortel Group.
The steady increase in population and changes in the economy means more travel across cities and town centres. According to a report, rail travel between the capital and the city of Birmingham will double in two decades. While the expansion of existing railways has helped in meeting the increasing need for more transport solutions, these solutions might not suffice in the long term. This is where the HS2 rail line will be particularly helpful, providing significant extra capacity for passengers and freight within the UK and to continental Europe.
In addition to connecting Birmingham to other parts of the UK with ease, HS2 will also be adding about 50,000 jobs to the economy, 26,000 of which would be in Birmingham. HS2 has also been reported to be showing signs of kickstarting another ‘industrial revolution’ in Birmingham. Consequently, the city is forecasting growth across the residential, commercial and hospitality sectors.
