Automotive Fuel Rail Market: An Array of Graphics and Analysis of Major Industry Segments
An automotive fuel rail performs the task of supplying fuel to the injectors, either at high pressure or low pressure. The primary function of the fuel rail is the optimal distribution of fuel to the injectors in the high or low pressure supply systems of engines. The fuel rail is the long, round metal bar that runs along the top of the injectors and is held onto the manifold with a few bolts. The fuel is pumped by a fuel pump into the fuel line. Fuel passes from the filter to the fuel rail, which is mounted on engine. The rail supplies the fuel to the fuel injectors.
A mechanical pressure regulator mounted on the rail keeps the differential pressure between the fuel injectors and the intake manifold constant, regardless of the absolute intake manifold pressure. The pressure regulator can do this, as it is controlled by the inlet manifold vacuum. The greater the vacuum, the more fuel the regulator allows to escape back to the fuel tank.

Increasing demand for vehicles is the key driver of the automotive rail market. Each vehicle requires a fuel rail for proper supply of fuel to the engine. Hence, the fuel rail is an essential part of the engine fuel delivery system. There are different types of fuel rail available in the market. Based on the application and purpose, the proper type is selected.
The key restraint to the automotive fuel rail is the cost. The fuel rail is an expensive component of an automobile. Any damage to the system results in breakdown of the engine. Electric vehicles are one of major restraint to the automotive fuel rail market. The demand for electric vehicles is increasing with the increasing awareness about vehicle emission, and emphasis of governing bodies for using electric vehicles. Electric vehicles do not need a fuel rail. Hence the demand for fuel rail is likely to decrease with increasing demand for fully electric vehicles.

The global automotive fuel rail market can be segmented based on vehicle type, fuel type, pressure, material, sales channel, and geography. In terms of vehicle type, the automotive fuel rail market can be segregated into passenger vehicles (PVs) and commercial vehicles (CVs). The commercial vehicles segment can be further sub-segmented into light commercial vehicles (LCVs), heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs), and buses and coaches. Each vehicle requires a fuel rail for fuel delivery.
In terms of fuel type, the automotive fuel rail market can be segmented into gasoline, diesel, and compressed natural gas. A fuel rail is selected depending upon the fuel type that the engine utilizes. Based on pressure, the automotive fuel rail market can be segmented into low pressure fuel rail and high pressure fuel rail. Generally, for heavy commercial vehicles and high torque producing engines, high pressure fuel rails are preferred.
In terms of material, the automotive fuel rail market can be segregated into steel, aluminum alloys, and plastic. Demand for aluminum and plastic fuel rails is increasing consistently, as manufacturers are focusing on reducing the vehicle weight, in order to improve the efficiency of the engine.
In terms of sales channel, the automotive fuel rail market can be segmented as Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and aftermarket. OEM segment is dominating the market as the fuel rail is an integral part of the automobile. Fuel rail has higher cost in the aftermarket segment. Hence the revenue generated per unit can be higher than that of the OEM segment.
