Reverse stock splits decrease the amount of shares you have. Gold is an excellent long-term investment, but it's not the ideal way to store your funds in the short-term. Companies may decide to split its stock in the event the present stock price is too high, especially if the purchase price is significantly higher than other companies in exactly the same market sector.
