Overview of Shigella Bacteria
Shigella bacteria are the cause of shigellosis, commonly known as bacillary dysentery. There are four groups of Shigella - Shigella dysenteriae, Shigella flexneri, Shigella boydii, and Shigella sonnei. These are transmitted through the fecal-oral route, usually through contaminated food or water.
