An electroretinogram (ERG) is a diagnostic test that measures the electrical activity of the retina in response to a light stimulus. The retina contains two types of photoreceptor cells - rods and cones. Rods are responsible for peripheral and night vision while cones provide color vision and detail. ERG testing helps ophthalmologists evaluate the function of both rods and cones to detect retinal abnormalities.
