Formaldehyde is one of the most significant industrial aldehydes and is produced by the catalytic oxidation of methanol. It is commercially available in the form of a 37%-50% aqueous solution. Manufacturers produce and consume the majority volume of formaldehyde in manufacturing formaldehyde resins and other downstream products including butanediol, acetal resins, methylene diphenyl diisocyanate, and pentaerythritol.
