It’s interesting how the history of lighting using gas has come about. Before the 18th century, people had to use oil lamps to be able to illuminate their homes. While useful at night, oil lamps could not cope up with the growing need for better illumination during the Industrial Revolution—people sought an alternative way of lighting not only homes but also streets and workplaces, so that they could work for a couple more hours a day.
