The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the world’s most popular sports league. As the fans await an intensive Indian cricket match everytime the league has an event, the world awaits for the next headlines on the cricket news.

Every Indian cricket match featured in the IPL is awaited by its millions of fans all around the world. As the league features not only popular Indian players but also renowned import players, the IPL becomes more interesting and exciting to watch.

This year, 2020, the IPL was to have its opening at the Wankehede Stadium on March 29. The first match of the series was supposed to happen between defending champions Mumbai Indians and the consistent Chennai Super Kings.

Due to unpredictable circumstances, the IPL had forcefully been delayed due to a global pandemic which shook the world in its entirety. In line with the outbreak of COVID-19, dozens of sports events and music events had been cancelled worldwide. In line with that, several countries also implemented some travel bans and lockdowns to protect the safety of their constituents.

In line with the widespread of the virus, the cricket news also shown several cancellations and postponements of awaited cricket matches. Some matches started being held behind closed doors for everyone’s safety. However, it was only a few day after that the postponement and cancellation of such events followed through.

Among those which had been postponed is this year’s season of the IPL. As the season was well-awaited by all, the fans had well-accepted the fate of this year’s event with slight disappointment.

Originally, the IPL was to be held behind closed doors like any other popular sporting events. However, with the number of COVID-19 cases rising in India, the BCCI deemed it best to postpone the league instead.

The date for the event’s resumption remains unsure. As per the BCCI, the struggle lies not on the new schedule but on the availability of all the players. Given the fact that 2020 is a World Cup year, the availability of the import players as well as the Men in Blue may complicate the resumption of IPL. In line with that, cricket fans are staying in tuned for the updates on cricket news sites.
