The number of times I see people in Tone Your Tummy gyms 'going through the motions' of an exercise. They daydream. Ask them what they are doing and chances are they don't know. They don't know what the exercise is, what muscles it works or how they should perform it correctly.Be accountable for your actions. Remember revising for exams? Quite often you would enter into revision half heartedly, reading the words on the page and looking at the diagrams, but drifting off into a daydream! Until you focused on the book in front of you and took in the information, you learnt nothing. You needed to be in the right mindset - living in the moment.
Your body and mind are inextricably linked. They need to function together to be efficient. Perform a quick experiment. First, take a moment to think about the 'stuff' going on in your head. What are you thinking about? Bills, shopping, phone calls to make, meetings to organise, work deadlines, money issues, kids needs... all of these are important, pressing issues to you.
OK, now concentrate on clearing your mind. Close your eyes and focus on your body. Wriggle your toes and feel them move. Listen to your breathing. Shake your fingers and relax your arms at your sides. Lift your chest and stand up straight.
Take a moment to notice how your body feels from head to toe. If you manage to put all of life's little chores on the back burner for a few seconds you will begin to get in touch with your own body. It should now be relaying information to your brain, telling you how it feels. Notice anything different? You should be more in touch with your senses, aware of energy levels, aches, pains and muscle tightness.
