Research on marijuana and its possible contribution to people diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes has been contradictory and difficult to interpret. Researchers at Michigan State University in Lansing, United States, put together eight studies and analyzed them as one large study to learn the overall result. Their analysis, reported on in the medical journal Epidemiology in May 2015, used information from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys and the National Surveys on Drug Use and Health. It was found marijuana smokers had a 30 percent lower risk of developing Type 2 diabetes than did non-smokers.
