Common Hip Injuries - How to Treat Them

Hip injuries are some of the most painful and persistent injuries that a runner can get. Arctic Blast Review Pin pointing hip injuries is such a complex task because there are so many of them and the symptoms are very much alike. Here's how to spot two of the most common hip injuries, and how to treat them.

Could it be a hip flexor strain? This injury is characterized by a sharp, stabbing pain near your leg creases as you run. It will also help if you lie on your back and pull your knee to your chest. The pain is caused by an injury to the hip flexor muscle or tendon, such as a tear or inflammation. If you increase your mileage or pace faster than what your body is able to handle, you will often come down with hip flexor pain. To treat this injury, take a week off and ice the area. Once the symptoms have gone away, start a stretching regiment for your hip flexors and slowly start to increase your mileage.

Could it be piriformis syndrome? This injury is characterized by a sharp pain deep in the buttocks which lingers on after your run. The injury is caused by a tight piriformis (a muscle found deep inside the hip), which rubs against the sciatic nerve. Treatment of this injury requires two weeks of rest and icing. After the first week do do deep tissue massages from sports therapists. Alternatively, you can sit and roll back and for across a tennis ball. Start a stretching regiment for the piriformis once the symptoms have vanished.
