HOW TO PROTECT YOUR HAIR WHILE YOU SLEEP

Beauty

Hair protection during sleep can be a demanding task especially as you are in an unconscious state. However, your nighttime regimen will determine whether or not your hair will remain intact and in position the next morning. With most experts recommending seven to nine hours of sleep, that is surely a long time for you to not consider taking care of your hair.

With the hair restores itself when you are asleep, there is the need to ensure that you are not taking steps detrimental to the hair restoration process. To ensure that you stay in perfect control of your hair’s health, below are some recommendations to help you care for your hair better while asleep.

1. Avoid sleeping with your hair tied up

One of the most common mistake women make with their hair when heading to bed is tying it up. While it is understandable that the goal of tying it up is to ensure that your hair remains in the same condition as when you slept, this thought process is wrong. Sleeping with your hair in a bun or ponytail may seem harmless in the short run but it puts tension on the scalp thus causing the hair to break. While it is understandable that you do not want your hair to get in your way while asleep, be sure to ditch the tight ponytail or bun and instead choose one of the many styling options like braiding your hair.

2. Dry your hair before heading to bed

Washing your hair at night comes with a lot of advantages that you should exploit especially when aiming to a healthier hair. However, should you decide to wash your hair, it is recommended that you keep in mind that your hair is in its most vulnerable state when wet and as such it is important to take extra time to properly dry out your hair before heading to bed. Should you choose to wash your hair at night, it is recommended that you take an extra hour or two for your hair to dry off before heading to bed.

3. Choose silk pillowcase

As part of your nighttime beauty routine, be sure to splurge on silk pillowcases. Well, you may wonder why silk? Silk is recommended because it is gentler on the hair compared to cotton. Remember, the smaller the fibers of the fabric of the pillow the lesser the chances of pulling and damaging your hair.

4. Wrap Your Hair

Having recommended that you avoid tying your hair up in buns and ponytail to bed, a significant upgrade to that would be wrapping your hair in satin head scarf before heading to bed. Just like silk pillowcases, satin head scarf is made of smaller fibers which serves to protect your ends and also helps you maintain your hairstyle. Wearing a satin scarf can also help you preserve your precious curls and braids and also prevent the early morning frizz.

5. Apply overnight treatment

We have discussed that hair growth occurs when you sleep and as such, what better time to apply hair treatment if not at night when your hair, along with other parts of your body get the much needed rest for proper rejuvenation.
