Wrong Misconceptions About Air-conditioning

Technology

It’s that time of year where the weather is too hot to take and you’re looking for a quick escape indoors. But if your HVAC system is on the fritz or has given up completely, you could be facing a losing battle with the heat no matter where you go. At times like these, you need an HVAC technician who knows what they’re doing and can get your air conditioner repaired or install a new HVAC system in no time flat. If you are in such a state, don’t hesitate to contact the Gilbert AC technicians at Hicken Air.

(1) As long as the system is working it doesn’t need maintenance

This is fallible on many fronts because it is basic knowledge that a system or device have the propensity of breaking down after working for a period of time; hence, the need for regular servicing. This is also applicable to the Heating Ventilation and air-conditioning system; which is why I get surprised when I hear this myth about not needing to service your HVAC system as long as it is working. Perfunctory maintenance is essential to always ensure the system maintains in a good working condition and also saves the cost that could have been accrued if the system have broken down entirely.

(2) Air Conditioners manufacture fresh air

It is quite laughable to believe this claim because you will have to imagine that the air conditioning have a large storage unit of air – which is really not the case, since the system itself doesn’t come with such attachment. So how does this myth come about? I really don’t know. The Air-conditioning system basically traps the air circulating outside, filter it, cool it and recirculate it throughout the building. The filter unit of the HVAC system is important to purify the air since there is a high chance of contamination with harmful gaseous substances.

(3) Turning down the thermostat will reduce the room temperature

This is basically false because the air conditioner only works at a fixed speed. So turning it down or up won’t increase the cooling effect. If it is not working that way, there is a high chance the system needs servicing.

(9) Adjusting the thermostat up when not in use will lower energy cost

This is not entirely true. According to the Department of Energy, periods less than eight hours are not long enough to have an impact on energy usage. So if you aren’t going out for longer than eight hours, there is no point being scared that your energy cost is accruing because the system is on.

So in case anybody comes to  sell you these false stories already discussed above, I hope you know better now to correct them and educate them on what is right.
