The sound of free stuff always sweetens the deal in my book and I’m sure for most of you, it does as well. Well four brand new smartphones on the market actually come with free accessories making the decision for customers increasingly harder. Announced at MWC 2016 in February, all four smartphones run Android 6.0 Marshmallow. If this is what you are looking for, then read ahead for four arguably great handsets that offer extra accessories for free.
Alcatel Idol 4S
The cheapest and first smartphone on the list, Alcatel’s new device should reach shelves within the next few months. The company plans to sell the Idol 4S in a retail box which is actually a FREE virtual reality headset – eliminating the need to buy one if you want to try VR. Similar to Samsung’s Gear VR or Google’s Cardboard, the Alcatel VR headset requires a compatible smartphone and the content is downloadable via their Onetouch VR Store.
In terms of the actual device, the Idol 4S sports a 5.5 inch Quad HD (1440 x 2560 pixel) display on a metal and glass frame. Powered by Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor, it is not as powerful of a contender as the other three but this gives the device an advantage when it comes to pricing. The Idol 4S is rumored to cost between $400 and $500 and since the company is already selling various smartphones in the US market, it is safe to assume that the Idol 4S will be available in the states sometime soon.
LG G5
Officially launching in the US market in early April, customers can find the new LG device at all four major mobile carriers (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint) as well as retailers such as Best Buy, Amazon, and B&H. LG confirmed that included with the purchase of the G5, customers will receive an extra battery (yes, this phone does offer a removable battery component) and a charging cradle for free – but for a “limited time.” No surprise here since last year, LG offered the G4 with similar freebies and a microSD card.
The G5 sports a 5.3 inch Quad HD screen on a metallic modular frame with an accessible and removable battery component. Powered by Qualcomm’s high-end Snapdragon 820 processor, the phone also features a 16 megapixel dual rear camera, Always On display mode, and 4 GB of RAM. Although LG did not reveal the price of the phone for the US market, in Canada, the handset will cost 800 CAD which is equivalent to roughly $600 in US dollars.
Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge
Although the deal ended on March 18th, the new Samsung Galaxy flagships both came with freebies. In fact, Samsung offered interested customers a free Gear VR headset, plus six games, total value of $149.99. Interestingly enough, if you chose to buy any of the two handsets from Verizon, you had the opportunity to choose a Gear S2 smartwatch ($300 value) instead of a Gear VR.
The new Samsung smartphones are water and dust resistant and are currently already available in the US as well as various parts of the world. The S7 sports a 5.1 inch Quad HD screen and can be purchased for as low as $649 unlocked with the larger and fancier S7 Edge (sporting a 5.5 inch dual-curve Quad HD screen) costing $100 more. Similar to the LG G5, the S7 and S7 Edge are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor (at least in the US variants).
Although only two of the four mentioned smartphones are currently available in the US market, the Idol 4S and the G5 will reach shelves in the near future. One thing is for sure, phone manufacturers are making it harder to decide which device is worth buying by bundling some extra goodies. So will you keep your eyes open for the latest and greatest models to come out within the next two months or do you want what’s on the market now?
