Ulcerative colitis is a chronic idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) of the gastrointestinal tract that affects the mucosal lining of the colon commonly occur in people aged between 15-30 years. About 20% of people with ulcerative colitis have a family member with the disease or with Crohn\’s disease which is also a type of IBD. There is no known cure for ulcerative colitis till now, but therapies are available that may significantly reduce the signs and symptoms of ulcerative colitis and even bring about a long-term remission.
