The condition is sometimes known by other names, one of which is chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis. The Hashimoto part of the name refers to Hashimoto Hakaru, who was a Japanese physician thought to be the first to describe the symptoms of the disease.
In this disease, T-cells attack the thyroid gland. A few possible symptoms that can be noticed in certain cases are briefly discussed below, however, this is not a complete list. Please remember that having these symptoms does not necessarily mean that a person has this particular disease, as they can be caused by other medical issues.
Additionally, not having certain symptoms does not mean that the patient does not have Hashimoto's, as not all of the symptoms are necessarily present in all cases, and they may also simply go unnoticed. Reactive hypoglycemia -- This refers to recurrent episodes of low blood sugar which are symptomatic and occur a few hours after eating a meal high in carbohydrates.
