But as I was considering this I asked myself. how does this apply to the life journey of a creative writer. What an intriguing question. This was the first time I'd ever looked at the writing journey in these terms. have we asked, and have we knocked at the door.
My own earliest picture of the deity was as somebody to be held in awe and respected but slightly feared, and to be on your best behaviour with. And similarly our first, most inexperienced writing may be self-consciously literary as if we are trying to impress an unknown but only dimly-perceived audience of judges.
At the age of 12 I rebelled. It was a parting of the ways, between me and this perceived Authority. During my teens, my attitude to the idea of God and to the dream of becoming a successful published writer was rather like that to a certain pop idol. unattainable, beyond me, desirable but hidden behind a closed door I didn't even dare knock at.
