Millennials don’t just want to work—they want to do meaningful work

Millennials are that mysterious group of people between the ages of 18 and 35. Their reputation on the job market is mixed. They make up the most well-educated generation in history. They are known to be ambitious, self-driven, hard-working digital natives.

However, their inherent distrust of bureaucracy and hierarchy also makes them prone to expecting rapid promotions, high levels of responsibility and the freedom to make decisions as they see fit, even if they are straight out of grad school. If their needs aren’t met, they’ll happily switch jobs in a snap. They are loyal to themselves and their careers, not the companies they work for.

This has often caused millennials to be viewed as entitled, disloyal and out of tune with reality. No matter how you view millennials, you will surely encounter them in your professional life. When you do, it is important to know how you should manage them and, more importantly, how you shouldn’t. A productive millennial can be worth his or her weight in gold.
