The Wachowski siblings released Speed Racer in 2008, adapting the classic Tatsunoko Productions anime for that Western viewer. Hollywood’s Speed Racer keeps the Americanized names adopted from the English-langauge dub from the original cartoon from your 1960s, but that Maplestory M Mesos doesn’t forgive the fact that the complete primary cast is white. It is worth noting that Speed Racer’s Western reinvention wouldn't begin while using Wachowski duo, while using Americanized cartoon using a long history from the United States.
Perhaps this history means that Speed Racer caused less of the stir because of its racial representation gets hotter hit theaters; critics more routinely panned its dizzying effects and incoherent storytelling. But there seemed to be some backlash with a smaller scale. Bloggers and Buy Maplestory M Mesos forum users called the film for again ignoring the Japanese roots in the Speed Racer franchise, although commenters on these types of posts were divided over if the film really constituted a whitewashed take. 
But they didn’t look Japanese! 
The characters in Speed Racer — and many of the other properties — don’t always immediately read as Japanese or Asian to Western viewers.  They’re abstracted by design; they are “unmarked,” which may lead to those used to seeing white characters on-screen reading them as white, not Japanese as intended.
