England’s Ben Stokes said that his teammates’ target is David Warner of the Australian national team. The Aussie opening batsman is the biggest threat for the English team to take home the Ashes. The first cricket match of the series will kick off on August 1, Thursday.

Warner, along with former captain Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft will play international cricket for the first time after being banned for 6-12 months. They were called the ‘Sandpaper trio’ because of their involvement in the ball-tampering scandal during the third Test match against South Africa in 2018.

Ben Stokes described Warner as a phenomenal batsman and a very dangerous opener. They were determined to dismiss Warner. He added that the team will put pressure on the team and regain the Ashes urn.

“We don’t want to give anything away to any of their batsmen. We want to let them know that we’re here to be serious and everyone in the changing room is desperately trying to get that urn back.” Stokes stated.

He remarked that both teams are desperate to win the biggest Test series in the world. Once they’re on the field, the competitive spirit of the teams will come out to win the Ashes urn.

Stokes failed to take part in the previous Ashes series after being ruled out from the squad for disciplinary action. He was involved in a street brawl in 2017 after their third ODI against the West Indies.

The Australian cricket team are the current holders of the Ashes urn after defeating England in Sydney during the 2017-18 series. They hold a record of 33 successful wins in the Ashes series.  Australia has not won any series in England since 2001.
