The Bangladesh Tour of Sri Lanka 2019 is quite a short event in cricket. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka only played three ODI matches in the duration of the tour. Home Team Sri Lanka dominated the whole tour as they won all the ODI matches against Bangladesh. Sri Lanka won by 91 runs in the first match and by 7 wickets in the second one. The team went on to win the third and final ODI match by 122 runs. It was a complete victory for the team.

The tour kicked off on July 26, days after the World Cup 2019 finals between England and New Zealand. The tour continued until July 31. Sri Lanka’s complete victory is a big deal for the cricket team. It was their first ODI series win since November 2015. This is also the last cricket series for Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga. The bowler retired after playing in the first ODI match of the tour.

All of the tour’s ODI matches were held in the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. All of the tour’s Player of the Match titles were awarded to Sri Lanka’s players. They are considered to be some of the team’s best players in the recent tour. The three Players of the Match from the tour are:

  1. Kusal Perera

  2. Avishka Fernando

  3. Angelo Mathews

Kusal Perera plays for Sri Lanka in all three cricket formats. He is also one of Sri Lanka’s best batsmen today. Meanwhile, Avishka Fernando is one of Sri Lanka’s youngest players. His international cricket career started in 2016 when he was just 18 years old. He scored 82 off 75 balls to win the second ODI match by seven wickets.

Angelo Mathews is also named Player of the Series in the tour. He is one of Sri Lanka’s best veteran cricket players. Mathews played for Sri Lanka in various World Cup tournaments. He used to be Sri Lanka’s team captain from 2013 to 2017.

Team Bangladesh in Sri Lanka may be short but fans of both teams were excited to watch the ODI series of the tour. Bangladesh almost did not go through with the tour because of issues in security. The tour was officially announced on July 8.
