Feeling the lag for ESO? Developers got your back.

Gaming

Players in Elder Scrolls Online may have been feeling that the server responds way too long or that load times may have taken a lot more than they used to despite owning a good rig to run the game. Fret not as Bethesda themselves are wary of such an issue and have plans in their pipeline to streamline ESO’s performance so that the quality of life can be better for all players. With various updates and patches that fixes technical issues such as stability fixes and rewriting of Looking for Group systems, Bethesda has shared their plans for the improvements that they plan to bring to players in 2020. As the terms are rather technical, players will have to note that these are technical updates that will rolled out together with the main updates that ESO brings about every quarterly.

Update 25: Q1 2020

  • Overhaul in patching process
    • Update has already been completed and will be released together with Update 25
    • ESO account users will have to redownload the game client when the update drops as it is a full overhaul of the patchers that ESO has been using.
  • Faster loading for fixtures and characters
  • Behind the scenes combat ability improvements (Phase 2)
  • Frame rate improvements (Phase 1)
    • ESO will now support multi-threading which will allow game systems to use multiple cores to run the game, improving on overall performance on the game client.

Update 26: Q2 2020

  • Server optimization and stability
    • Pets will have their codes rewritten to be more efficient, so that they cause less strains on servers.
    • Player characters will be loaded faster from the multi-threading as well.
  • Frame rate improvements (Phase 2)
    • Multi-threading now works around how art assets are constructed and drawn, allowing multiple cores to handle the task and ease strain on client as it loads.
  • Behind the scenes combat ability improvements (Phase 3)
    • This improvement focuses on AoE abilities to make them more specialized, easing burden on server performance.

Elder Scrolls Online will see various new updates and improvements as the game continues in 2020. Who knows what new content Bethesda will bring us as well, so hold on to your TESO items and ESO gold as we look forward to an exciting year ahead in the world of Tamriel.
