February 20, 2018 – University of California (US) announced that UCI along with some supermarkets, commercial catering businesses and restaurants are jointly running a programme to convert food wastage into electricity. The programme involves a specialized process to mix the food waste through a bio slurry & pumped in to anaerobic digesters filled with bacteria that can break down the material, producing biogas containing methane which is further used to produce electricity. Some amount of the bio gas can also be converted into compressed natural gas to be used in vehicles as a cleaner bio fuel.
February 21, 2018 – The organisation, named Food Waste (Scotland) announced its partnership with the Binn Group, a waste management firm. The collaboration will be working on producing energy from wasted food using (food waste) company’s re-processor.
