How to Become a Mud Runner

As you already know, I find running extremelyMetabolic Stretching Review boring and only run as an outlet for stress but that wasn't enough and I was ready to give it up and look for another hobby. Then my friend convinced me to sign up for a Tough Mudder and with that, my life was forever changed.

Mud runs, mud races, mudders, or whatever they are called, are great ways to get the unengaged runner engaged. These races are setup to encourage teamwork through obstacles that they have littered throughout the course. This means, that you rely on teammates and other competitors on the course, during the race.

Mud runs range in their distance, starting at 3.1 miles (5K), going up to 24 miles (marathon distance). Be sure to check out your race's distance before committing. If you are a novice runner you probably want to start at the shorter races and build yourself up. Warrior Dash is by far the most popular but there are plenty of other options for races. Some are run nationally (like Warrior Dash) and some locally (just Google Mud Run and the name of your city). Here are the top 3 and a little about each:

Tough Mudder: Developed by a pair of ex British Special Forces officer. These mud runs usually range between 10 to 12 miles in distance. This is most popular of the long distance mud runs. Be ready to plunge into ice water, crawl through yards of thick mud, climb 8 foot walls, and run through wires that carry up to 10K volts of electricity.
