Well Completion

The oil and gas industry has to come across several challenges. They have to ensure the flow of oil from the well. If the work goes in halt for a day, it is counted negative production. It influences the profit ratio to a great extent. Various types of measures are taken to maintain the workflow. Well completion is one of the processes for making a well ready for production right after drilling. It is all about preparing the bottom of the well for production. With the advancement of technology, well completion has also evolved to improve the work production of wells.

Downhole Completion

Various types of techniques are used for lower completion or downhole completion. All techniques aim to increase production.

Barefoot completion

It is the basic type, excellent for hard-rock where multi-laterals and underbalanced drilling are required. The technique keeps the reservoir without any tubular. It helps to eliminate control overflow from the formation. The technique is not designed for weaker formation where sand controlling is required.

Open Hole Completion

It is related to a broad range of completions where there is no requirement of casing across the production zone. In short, the zone has no casing but has some control over the formation of sand.

Open hole completion has seen much progress in recent years and a range of configurations are available to meet with the challenges for reservoirs. The development has given a boost to the success of open-hole completion. The completion technique is using successfully in horizontal wells where cement installations are not so cheaper.

Cleaning the Formation

After drilling and completion, there is often a requirement of cleaning the wellbore. Drilling and completion can cause damage to the surrounding formation and can block the pores of rocks. It would influence the permeability in the near wellbore area and reduces production.

For cleaning the reservoir, a safe chemical solution is pumped or injected into the well bore. The diluted acid mixtures enable to dissolve the offending material. Once the material gets dissolved, it restores the permeability and production. The process is known as well stimulation. Some group of people refers to it acidization where acid is used in high pressure to stimulate production. Cleaning is part of completion chemical and well stimulation. The oil and gas agency maintains all types of precautions to maintain the work flow properly. They dare to use the latest technology to increase production.
