Concrete Form liners are liners employed in the preparation of texture and designs on concrete walls. Unlike the smooth plain-gray concrete wall, a concrete wall with form liner usually looks more attractive especially for highways, neighborhood, beaches and even parks. And depending on the application, form liners can come in different styles and shapes.

Form liners, however, apart from being used for any other purpose, give texture and color to the concrete walls. Even though, very little or no difference exists between the molds used for concrete countertops, furniture, or sinks, there are still many applications of form liners that are not applicable to concrete molds. In fact, currently, a type of form liner, Urethane Rubber is used to add texture to countertops edge and stair risers, whether it is cast-in-place or precast.

Uses of Form Liners

Form liners today are used in many precast applications. One of them is

1. 1-The architectural concrete cladding panels and spandrel beams for building that are often cast using liners in order to add texture.

3. 2-Also, on the precast highway sound walls, the popularity of the texture and custom decorative features is getting on the high side as many funds are now been infused into art.

5. 3-Reinforced Earth, now called Panel for Mechanically Stabilized Earth are also always cast with some of the decorative features. In fact, recently about 9 million sound walls were pre-casted using a variety of form liners in order to construct Interstate 25 in Denver.

7. 4-Another application is in tilt-up panels, which amount to on-site precast, are also often cast using form liners, most especially ribbed pattern. Jill Richard, one of the employees of Fitzgerald Form Liners advised that we should always look out for single-use plastic form liners. Another common feature of tilt-up panels is Cast-in thin bricks, which are installed using what amounts to a plastic card to hold the thin bricks in position. This is to ensure that the bond between the form liner and the concrete is strong enough.

9. 5-Different companies including Hudson, Milestones, Paul Nasvik et al. have built concrete rails in several national parks, with Sequoia and Yellowstone inclusive. However, the Federal Highway Administration Specifications did not give room for the use of masonry, even though the best wall for the park is that built with masonry. The only solution they can fall upon is the form liners. This is because form liner, coupled with some special stains meet the requirement of the Federal Highway Administration Specification

As earlier stated, there are many ways or methods by which liners can be attached to form panels and concrete is cast for either walls or columns. Today, the most popularly used liner provides a platform where a stone masonry is being stained, making the wall resemble a stone but having built-in strength and durability.

.In conclusion, there is a wide spectrum of applications that the form liner can exploits. However, note that the application that the form liner is to be used for determines the type(s) of form liner that will be used.
