First, Apply for a Provisional Licence

You need to get a provisional licence first before anything else. The requirements are pretty basic – you must be at least 15 years and nine months old on the date of application and you must be living in Great Britain. Moreover, a good eyesight is also a must for getting a provisional licence. You have to be at least 17 should you want to drive on UK roads.

Once you meet the minimum requirements, fill up the application form and pay the fee. The provisional license is then sent to your posting mail. This lets you process driving on the road but note that you must have a full licence holder with you. That holder must be at least 21 years old and has held the licence for at least three years. Next, Pass the Driving Test Theory

Now that you are feeling confident with your driving skills, how about testing the driving rules you know on UK roads? The provisional licence is the sole requirement to take the test after paying the required fees. You can take the test online or through the phone. The theory test is composed of 50 multiple choice questions and a hazard perception test. The latter includes watching clips of simulated road scenes and spotting hazards on these.

If you are not so confident to take the exam, you may try to take free online tests and read the Highway Code. Once you pass, you get a theory test pass certificate. Otherwise, you have to wait for three working days to take the test again.

Last, Take a Practical Driving Test 

Now to the last part, the driving test! You are one hurdle away from getting your full UK licence and it lies in the examiner’s assessment whether you pass or not. Passing the driving test theory is the sole requisite for this one and the practical test can be nerve-wracking. A piece of advice – just try to relax.

The test starts by trying to read the plate number 20 meters away from you. Then, everything after is up to the examiner’s set of instructions you should follow. He will also assess how you drive without constant instruction. If you make less than 15 faults, you pass the practical driving test. Then wait for the licence to be delivered to your post.
