One of the easiest and quickest ways to customize a room in your home is to use wall vinyl. Wall vinyl comes with an adhesive backing that is attached to transfer paper. The vinyl is available in many different shapes, designs, and colors. One of the most popular designs is wall vinyl lettering. Do you have a favorite saying or quote that is meaningful to you or your family? With wall vinyl lettering you can put this quote on a wall of the home as part of a decorative theme for all to be reminded of. The best part is that you can do it yourself and in just minutes.

Applying wall vinyl requires few tools. You simply supply a little time and attention. Here are some tips to successfully apply wall vinyl designs and lettering. First, choose a smooth wall surface to apply the vinyl to. Since the vinyl adhesive must adhere well to the wall, ensuring the wall surface is clean and dry is important. Going over the wall with a slightly damp rag is all that is needed here. Just remember to let it dry thoroughly before applying the vinyl.

Once you have decided where to apply the vinyl design, place the transfer paper with the design onto the wall and temporarily secure it with some small pieces of masking tape at the top edge. When you have it located where you want it to permanently be, secure it with a strip of 1 to 2-inch masking tape to along the entire upper edge of the transfer paper. If the design is large you may want to cut the design into smaller sections using scissors. This can be done with the design taped onto the wall. Simply cut up and around the design to the tape at the top edge. Don't cut through the tape or the design will fall to the floor!

Next, peel off the paper backing exposing the adhesive on the back of the vinyl. Press the transfer paper to the wall and lightly press and smooth with your hand to iron out any wrinkles. Then take a flat squeegee. Any squeegee-like tool will work. A credit card, for example, works great for this if the design is relatively small. Using the squeegee, rub the transfer paper again while applying good pressure. This will cause the vinyl to adhere to the wall surface.

Lastly, carefully pull off the transfer paper. Pull up and toward the masking tape constantly checking to make sure not to pull the vinyl off of the wall. If you have done this correctly, the adhesive between the wall and the vinyl will be stronger than between the vinyl and the transfer paper allowing the design to peel off of the paper. Pulling straight up slowly and not outward will help to prevent the vinyl from lifting off of the wall.

Once the vinyl design has been applied to the wall, simply remove the transfer paper and the masking tape and your decoration is complete. No mess, no fuss, and you have a great looking customized job! Better yet, you can take satisfaction in knowing that you did it yourself!
