The Power of Delaying Gratification: Why You Should Do It, and How
I very much see the point of instilling a sense of order in a child's life, Becoming Limitless Review and I understand that some of the traditions performed on a family or national level are held for the remembrance of times gone by, to honor a feat of strength or an act of goodness or a life now deceased, for the inclusion of history in the development of an adult; but that is about where I have to draw the line when it comes to my tolerance for tradition; it is the small intimate traditions I can just about endure, the common, free for all traditions are beyond the limit of decency or intelligence.
Unfortunately there are too many people who see tradition as the best or only way to raise a child a method that simply encourages one human to do the same as the humans that lived before it; to live a life already lived. What is the point I find it so sad that grandparents, parents and families are so wrapped up in their own traditional values that they see everything else as unacceptable or wrong; whether it comes to a national tradition that is viewed as quirky by other nations like Morris dancing in the UK or something far more sinister such as the systemic undermining of women in Iran or even something plain depressing like the ignorance towards the views and beliefs of other nations displayed in the USA; and let us not forget what a total mess the European nations made of the African Continent the forced imposition of Western tradition on nations that were doing just fine before the mercenaries and missionaries began beating their traditional values into the natives; the farming methods that worked in Europe yet caused starvation in Africa, the religious doctrines that only caused confusion, hatred and death; and still the Europeans and Americans think they know best, they still think that they can forcefully beat their traditional beliefs into these people, yet they fail repeatedly and will continue to do so.
Tradition is, by it's very existence, a way to refuse the acceptance of change, a way to cling desperately to the past whilst stagnating growth; all in all, tradition offers us very little because we don't seem to learn from the past anyway; we keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again, we keep receiving the same results over and over again, and then we are shocked how many more generations will not learn from their mistakes or the mistakes of the past whilst upholding the traditions that created such devastating results
Wars that end in hundreds of thousands of deaths, that destroy the lives of those that survive, that devastate the environment and desecrate the traditions they try to save. Marriages that end in divorce, that destroy an adult's sense of self worth, that devastate a child's life and desecrate the families they try to create. Nations that exist on bitter rivalry based on hatred of minor idiosyncrasies are we not, after all, humans who all profess to want peace Yet, when it comes to national pride we encourage our children to dislike, disdain and disembowel those that live with different traditions. Religions that encourage the exact opposite of their core teaching no matter which religion it may be, their divisive nature going against the grain of their very beliefs.
