Containing Candida

Since the early part of the 20th century, theFresh Flora Review condition known as thrush has been recognized in infants. It is characterized by soft, white lesions in the mouth and on the baby's tongue. Thrush is often present with diaper rash, as the yeast can spread throughout the body and cause irritation in the diaper area. Thrush is actually a Candida yeast infection that presents primarily in the mouth. In adults the same infection will present as skin infections or, in women, vaginal yeast infections. For those with immune systems already compromised by disease or antibiotic treatments, the yeast infection can become even more widespread throughout the body.

Factors contributing to the development of a Candida infection can include the use of oral contraceptives, frequent or long-term use of antibiotics, steroid use, including inhaled corticosteroids, diabetes, pregnancy, or high-sugar diets. Nearly one-half of all sexually active women, and a full one-third of all pregnant women, have an overabundance of Candida albicans.

Common treatment is anti-fungal medications, but these can have some side effects that cause some individuals discomfort. Side effects may include fever, pain in various areas of the body, and a foul-smelling discharge.

Because of these side effects, natural remedies are being used and accepted by more and more individuals. Some of these natural remedies include eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as less red meat and more poultry and fish. Also, whole grains, especially flaxseed, high in essential fatty acids - are among the recommended foods for those battling Candida infections.
