Introduction: El Haddad InternationalCompany was established in October 1993 as an import company with a starting Capital of 20,000 EGP (£ 3,500) at the time exchange rate. UntilJanuary 1994, no imports were made and all efforts were made to select the proper line of business based upon which the company will be specialized in. In February 1994, the company’s nature was changed from a single entity into an equalshare company with a partner introduced and the capital was then raised to 40,000 EGP (£ 7,000) at the time exchange rate. In March 1994, the first business trip was made to California, USA to sign the first agency agreement with a Pool and Snooker table manufacturer “Murrey International” which also manufactured 10 Pin Bowling Equipment and Lanes. In May 1994 , the first 9” pool table was imported to Egypt by air freight in order to be displayed at the Sports and Fitness exhibition that took place in Cairo Marriott Hotel within the same month . Meanwhile, a 40’ container order was placed containing 32 different model pool tables. The table was sold within the exhibition at an approximately 20 % loss value , however 3 other tables were sold on catalogue. Within the 90 days time duration between manufacturing and shipping transit time since the date of order, almost 20 tables out of the 32 were already sold Eight of these tables were sold to a customer who intended to open a public pool club that was named “Antique” after one of the table’s name model . The rest were sold to private owners to be installed within their villas. In August 1994, Antique club was inaugurated and operated 24 hours a day with a two day reservation cue line and the rentalrate / hour / table was 20 EGP (£ 3.8) at the time. The great success witnessed there was the drive for many other customers to start a similar business which itself was the trigger for a great boom in this line of industry. The remaining of the first 40’ container was entirely sold in cash in no time, other orders were immediately in place. The customer demand on pool tables was so aggressive to the extent that 95 % advance payments were obligatory and the company’s cash flow as well as capital increased exponentially . Murrey International company at the time had to assign an exclusive tables production line to fulfill and meet our stream of requirements. On the third container order from Murrey, snooker tables were included and were not found up to the required standards, based upon which other suppliers were sought and Thurston was the selected candidate as Riley had an assigned distributer in Egypt. Many other overseas companies in the Billiards line of business were addressed and exclusivity agreements obtained. In January 2000, Laners Egypt was changed again from a partnership company into a single entity whereby the partner had bought the other share at an equivalent company worth of approximately £ 1.1 million at the time exchange rate. Once the company was split, EL Haddad InternationalCompany was born – starting from scratch again as the value above mentioned included the rights of holding 17 international agencies. Laners Egypt lasted for approximately 2 years before shutting down for good.
