Banque Misr was established in 1920 by the pioneer economist and financial expert Mohamed Talaat Harb Pasha, who spearheaded the concept of investing in national savings and directing them towards economic and social development. Thus, Banque Misr was established as the first wholly Egyptian – owned bank.
Banque Misr has also established major investment funds in Egypt, as part of a diversified portfolio, and was granted an award by the Global Finance Treasury and Cash Management Awards as the ‘Best Provider of Money Market Funds in Africa and the Middle East’ for the years 2009 and 2010 and the ‘Best Provider of Money Market Funds in the Middle East’ for the years 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. Moreover, on the scale of the Middle East and North Africa region, Banque Misr maintained its top ranking among Egyptian banks, ranking at fifth place among Bookrunners and the sixth place among Mandated Lead Arrangers in the MENA region for the third quarter of 2017.
