Today, the automobile and van industry has to face several major challenges which are often difficult and contradictory. These challenges concern environment conservation, consumption reduction, diversification of sources of energy, rise of customers’ demands for more comfort and more safety, the increasing globalisation of markets and the imperative of being continually more competitive. The extraordinary capacity of adaptation and innovation of the automobile industry has shown since decades that mutations which used to seem impossible to cross had been overcome with verve and that the sector emerged stronger and more vigorous.
